    Information and Registration

Project managers must constantly communicate with people to understand what is happening and how they need to direct resources.  Meetings are a popular format for these necessary activities.  But meetings can be a drag on the people hosting them and attending them. Even the thought of a meeting can make people anxious. If a Project Manager leads an effective meeting, then people are aligned, energized and set up for project success.

After completing this session, you will:
  • Identify the true cost of ineffective meetings
  • Develop a deeper understanding of how to plan and lead a productive meeting
  • Describe the actions to continuously improve the process and make it more fun!

    Program: Experimenting with Design Sprints
  • Wade Pinder, Senior Manager Customer Experience Innovation for Global Custom Commerce at Blinds.com (and ALNH Member!)

    Information and Registration

Wade Pinder shares lessons learned from facilitating his first Design Sprint.

If you keep up with news and trends in the UX (User Experience) space there’s a good chance you’ve heard the buzz around “Design Sprints.” Design Sprints, “a five-day process for solving problems and testing new ideas,” have been gaining popularity since the process was first made available to the public in March 2016 in the book “Sprint: How to Solve Big Problems and Test New Ideas in Just Five Days” by Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky & Branden Kowitz. Each respective day of the five-day process follows a “Map, Sketch, Decide, Prototype & Test” format and is used to help an organization plot a way forward when faced with a particularly “hairy” problem. Jake Knapp, along with many other teammates from Google Ventures, created and honed the process by applying it to problems faced by over 150 startups. In the Sprint book, Jake explains “Startups usually get only one good shot at a successful product before they run out of money. Sprints could give these companies a way to find out if they were on the right track before they committed to the risky business of building and launching their products. There was money to be made, and saved, from running [design] sprints.”

Are you thinking of running a Design Sprint at your organization, but aren’t sure that it would be a great match? Jake claims “there is no problem too big for a [Design] Sprint.”
