    Information and Registration

Automation will continue to be the solution to removing repetitive and mundane work from the desks of corporate personnel.  Automation represents one of the most powerful opportunities to solve the immense information management challenge facing most organizations; beginning with automating the capture, classification, identification, and patrolling of content to ensure content is in compliance with any regulation from PII to HIPPA to GDRP and CCPA, and ending with the constant evaluation of information to determine its value and manage its lifecycle, including disposition. However, automation isnít magic.  There is work to be done to ensure automation represents an efficient and highly reliable method for dealing with the compliance challenges of corporate information.

  • Dr. Lizette Ojeda, Texas A&M University

    Information and Registration

Professionals who want to make a bigger impact can hold themselves back if they are not clear about what it means for them to be a successful leader. They might not be sure how to maximize their skills or how to position themselves with more confidence. This is most common among introverts who think they have to change their personality to effectively present their accomplishments and hard workers who would rather let their projects speak for themselves so they don't risk being seen as arrogant. Consequently, these misperceptions leave much talent untapped; Professionals unnecessarily become dissatisfied with their career progression and with themselves, while companies miss out on the best from their employees.

In this transformational talk, participants will be able to:
  • Discover how to identify their strengths, skills, and personality so they can become more impactful leaders without having to change who they are.
  • Learn about different leadership styles so they can identify the one that is most aligned with their vision and values.
  • Learn science-based strategies to have more confidence as an authentic leader.
  • Location: Station Houston
    1301 Fannin Street, Suite 2440

    11:30am - 1:30pm
    Event:
    HIMSS
Program: How EHRs and Malpractice Affect IT Staff
  • Mark R. Anderson, LFHIMSS, CPHIMS Ė President of Houston Chapter of HIMSS
(former CIO with 5 IDNís and has worked on 42 different legal cases as an Expert Witness in the past 7 years)

    Information and Registration

This session will explore how EHRs have affected how medical malpractice cases are handled and the effect throughout the IT department.  When a malpractice case is filed, the hospital must provide detailed information regarding details of the patient treatment at the hospital and every encounter during a specific time frame.  This includes detailed EHR audit trails, copies of the patientís complete medical records, written policies and procedures, nursing and medical guidelines, and any written documentation that might be on paper regarding the patient.  For most IT departments, we are required to provide a copy of the patientís EHR audit trail Ė but itís not that simple.  Plaintiff attorneys have learned to ask for numerous documents, reports, and written policies and the IT department must understand what they are asking for and what to provide the attorneys.

    Learning objectives:
  • Learn about the recent-past and predicted effects of EHRs on malpractice prevention and defense
  • How can and does the EHR help in delivering good care? What gaps have vendors not disclosed?
  • Examples of legal cases and what was the IT department asked to investigate
  • Location: Texas Woman's University - Houston
Room 1120 - First floor lobby area
    6700 Fannin Street.
